Songs about Brisbane – 13: Washington

[Another suggestion from the indefatigable Rachel Newnham. This one features a particular favourite of mine – Ed.]

Washington – Rich Kids
This song always reminds me walking through the Valley, our hub of scungy males and inappropriately dressed ladies. With my fear of gross people, this song could soundtrack many nights of being accosted by groups of cocky youths with their pointy leather shoes. As I’ve said approximately 1,000 times, most songs about Brisbane are about leaving. So when she sings“I remember why I left this town”, I can sympathise. If any of my friends were the rich kids she sings about, I would be leaving before I’d even arrived. They freak me out too, Megan.
