Intelligent women – the best of IDM

Though based in London, former opera singer The Doubtful Guest (AKA Libby Floyd) hails from Chicago. Signed to Planet Mu, hers is the first example of acid I’ve heard since about 1988, so it was a strange and welcome experience to revisit this chapter of my aural history. This is pretty enjoyable stuff.

Label-mate Mrs Jynx is also based in the UK, up in Manchester. According to Planet Mu’s website, “Mrs Jynx loves mushroom soup, crisps, cheese and music. She also loves pork scratchings, The Faraway Tree, Gordon Ramsay, Nighty Night & Julia Davis, Jeff Hardy, Louis Theroux, Most Haunted, Wentworth Miller, sharks and cats.” Despite the bizarrely personal nature of the bio, it’s surprisingly difficult to find out anything about the reclusive Mancunian. The 808 State-ish sounds will have to speak for themselves.
