You can’t judge a book by its cover. Or an album. Or can you? PART TWO
This might be pushing a concept too far, I dunno. Anything that helps annoy a phalanx of Strokes fans has to have some merit in it, surely?
As before, I showed six album sleeves to my Caboolture KMB003 (Sex Drugs Rock N Roll) students, and asked them to figure out what the music sounded like from the artwork alone. None of the students had heard of the artists before. Here are their responses.
AFRIRAMPO – AFRIRAMPO
world music, soul, trance
CLOCK DVA – THIRST
industrial, rap, power-violence grindcore, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein
MATT MONRO – MATT MONRO
jazz, Motown, Frank Sinatra, jingles or songs composed for game shows
DUB NARCOTIC SOUND SYSTEM – OUT OF YOUR MIND
psychedelic rock, electro-punk, nu metal
ESG – A SOUTH BRONX STORY
children’s concept music, experimental, noise, post-rock, Starbucks
THE THIN KIDS – THE THIN KIDS
