Maria Minerva

I guess  this could serve as some form of response post to the final comment I made about Lana Del Rey a week or so back. Yes, I know you aren’t supposed to reply to yourself.

  • I like this for some of the same reasons I like the Jib Kidder songs – analogue electronica, distorted and looped and whirling
  • I like this for some of the same reasons I like the Lana Del Rey cover, Grimes and U.S. Girls (and on) – disconnected emotions, disembodied performance, distracted
  • I like this for some of the same reasons I like to refer back to my own words – you create your own sense of place, your own alternative reality or history or whatever you choose to call it today
  • I like this for some of the same reasons I like to avoid talking to people, friends, anyone, on the telephone
  • I like this for some of the same reasons my son Isaac (age 7) likes to watch DVDs with the fast-forward button on the first setting – sped-up snatches of the action, information compressed
  • I like this for some of the same reasons as ever – it reinforces my sense of alienation, my sense of well-being
  • I like this for some of the same reasons I once pretended to like Sylvia Plath for – I bought into the back-story (not that I knew the first word of the back-story of Maria Minerva while typing these words, but I can project, can’t I?)

IS THIS TOO OBVIOUS FOR YOU?

I AM NOT HERE TO GIVE YOU A HISTORY LESSON
