She sounds like a member of the peerage rapping. Is the appeal of this that we all know that it’s awful, but that we enjoy it because we know, that they know, that we’ll get that it’s awful, and so we simultaneously get to feel like we’re enjoying contemporary pop music while also feeling knowingly above it? It’s like the pop music version of blackface. Is Uffie the Al Jolson of trashy pop? This has just never reached Minneapolis before so I’m just trying to figure things out here.

“Is Uffie the Al Jolson of trashy pop?”

;laskdf;asldhshg;dlkhfahahahahahaahahahahahaha! You need to put that on a t-shirt!

From that clip I think Uffie is the Boxxy of trashy pop.

It could also be an American Apparel advert.

Actually Wallace, I do wonder whether American Apparel have insidiously eaten away at my taste-meter, because as soon as you said that I was like … YES! And I couldn’t see anything wrong with it.

But, um: this is killer pop. The voice is hyper-real. The dissolute rich kid glamour is as finely played as anything since Performance (and I don’t even like Jagger). And it’s got that nasty little hook-worm which burrows itself deep in your brain. Nothing to despise. I’m going to try and work out a better defence shortly. I’m new to this, you understand.
