Go Violets (RIP)
Despite living in the same city and them having been together for three years, I’ve never seen Go Violets live. With the announcement of the band splitting it now looks like I’m not going to get the chance, at least not until the tearful reunion in a few years’ time. Remember them as they were, before they were given the fateful kiss of death.
Teeth & Tongue – Good Man & New Born
One Friday night years ago, I went to a free gig at Fat Louie’s in the City and ended up seeing an amazing band called Moscow Schoolboy. The day after I went to a free gig at Ric’s and ended up seeing an amazing band called Moscow Schoolboy. The EP as duly bought and when my then-girlfriend told the female singer/keyboard player that we’d seen them the previous night, and had come to see them again because they were so good, hugs were exchanged.
Barring a couple of poor quality live snippets on Youtube, Google throws up very little evidence of Moscow Schoolboy, which is a shame. I haven’t even got that EP anymore, I’m guessing my ex has it. Whatever happened to the band, Jess Cornelius, that female singer, started her solo venture, Teeth & Tongue, and has a new album, GRIDS, out tomorrow. No one sent us the album (no change there, although the label hasn’t liked us since they arranged for us to interview Iceage) but ‘Good Man’ and ‘Newborn’ were the first couple of songs to be released.
Iggy Azalea & Charli XCX – Fancy
I posted this in a Friday Afternoon Playlist last month but it now comes with added video clip. An Australian rapper and a British singer in a video clip that pays homage to an American film based on classic English literature.

Holiday Sidewinder – Carousel
One of my favourite Australian albums of the last five years was Bridezilla’s The First Dance. It’s one of those albums that you always end up thinking about playing when scanning the shelves for something to listen to. Sadly the band never made it to a second album but lead singer Holiday Sidewinder, now based in the UK, has a new song on Soundcloud. It’s a completely different sound to Bridezilla, a lot more pop than might have been expected, 60s influenced electronica, sounding a lot more like St Etienne than her darker, brooding previous band.
Lyla Foy – Feather Tongue
This week’s playlist seems to be taking on an inadvertent electro-life of its very own so we might as well continue with new music from Lyla Foy.
