It was a completely unexpected but ever-so-slightly thrilling surprise to be scrolling through Style of Sound’s recent ‘Most Influential Online Indie & Alternative Music Publication in the World‘ publication a couple of weeks ago and see that Collapse Board was ranked at Number 25.  Even more hilarious  was being the highest ranked Australian-based site, which makes us THE MOST INFLUENTIAL ONLINE INDIE AND ALTERNATIVE MUSIC PUBLICATION IN AUSTRALIA. Someone should tell the Australian music industry or something.

When it comes to the overall most influential sites, rather then the ‘indie and alt’ sub-genre, we’ve still got a bit to go before we catch up Brooklyn Vegan at No. 100. It’s interesting that there’s only three Australian sites in the overall Top 100, Tonedeaf (No.66) and Music Feeds (No.39) and classical music site Limelight Magazine (no, me neither).  As a long term reader of the music press, it’s fascinating to see so many specialized metal, dance and hip-hop publications in the higher reaches of the chart.

Still, the 25th Most Influential Online Indie & Alternative Music Publication in the World and the Most Influential Online Indie & Alternative Music Publication in Australia has a nice ring to it.  Maybe we should make it our new tagline.
