Best Coast, 'Our Deal', Drew Barrymore

Oh Drew, Drew. And to think we used to go out drinking together…

Yes, I get it. It’s West Side Story (or Romeo And Juliet, if you must) re-imagined as an American Apparel ad. Directed by the Queen of the Romcoms, Drew Barrymore. You can stop hitting me over the head with your blunt stick now.

Oh, mother fucker. This shit’s so corporate I can’t even embed it. And is it just me, or do Best Coast now sound like Vivian Girls with all the blood syphoned out of them? Sorry about this, but you’re going to have to go here if you want to see it. You needn’t bother, though. Just pick up a copy of the latest issue of Vice, and stare at the back cover.

From the NME news story:

Speaking to Rolling Stone last month, Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino said that Barrymore came up with a “really cool concept” for the video after the pair met after a gig in Los Angeles.

Bangs wept. That must have really taxed Barrymore’s brain.

“Hey, like (giggles), you know that old film West Side Story (giggles)? Wouldn’t it be cool if we re-made it as a four-minute pop video, but, like, set in 2011? And we could ask some really cool present-day TV and film stars to be in it! (Giggles)”

Here’s what the video could have looked like if someone had actually come up with a “really cool concept”

And here’s what the music could have sounded like
