  1. Miss Skribble says:

    Can i vote for two?
If so then Miss The Occupier & The Shondes gets my vote(s) :)

  2. Geoff The Postman says:

    I vote for La Sera.
Always thought The Vivian Girls over rated, but this, I like.

Both my favourite 45 0f the year, LUV by Theee Bat and favourite LP, I Wanna Go Home by Shannon & The Clams are femme fronted.

A few other female fronted favourites of the moment:
Dial (fronted by the mighty Jacqui Ham)
    Micragirls
    Cobra Killer
    Okmoniks
    Two Tears
    Fabienne Delsol
    Babyshakes
Momo Lamana (a two piece boy/girl gang, not strictly female fronted, but Momo, the female half does take lead on a few tracks)
Les Bellas (now defunct, but debut lp has just been posthumously released)
The Nuns (good to see them making ‘song of the day’ recently)
    Girls At Dawn
    Boonaaaras!!!
    Werewandas
    Les Terribles
Big Sexy Noise (Lydia Lunch & co)

  3. Geoff The Postman says:

p.s. going to see La Sera on Tueday next

  4. Matt says:

    P.S. Eliot
    Little Lungs
    Screaming Females

  5. Everett True says:

now updated with a different Butts clip, and a different Grass Widow clip.

Explode Into Colors broke up last spring The drummer (LS) got together with another drummer (STS) and formed a duo called STLS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8J5BusIOwc

  7. Everett True says:

That Shannon & The Clams is a great tip, thanks Geoff. I’ll feature them in a future Song of the Day. I wrote a review of Dial for Plan B a while back – great band – and of course Fabienne Delsol, The Nuns, Two Tears, Lydia, Cobra Killer… look forward to checking out the others. Let me know how the La Sera gig goes. I supported Vivian Girls with The Deadnotes last year and they were killer live, total punk.

  8. Simon says:

    Hey ET,

Check out newcomers Hearts Under Fire from Guidford, UK.

    Si

  9. Everett True says:

Thanks Simon, but the whole point of taking recommendations from friends on Facebook on bands is to try and avoid the music industry

  10. tv says:

morgan and the organ donors video is from one of their first shows, they just got back from their first tour and have a self-released 7″ out that you can get from k

found the first half of these slow going… tho Racula’s hair-blower gets cowbell points (w/double credit if that’s her mom on drums). Would have liked Miss the Occupier plenty without the video (and the name ;o).
    Grass Widow, I guess?

with all the research you’ve done, it’d be cool if you produced a girl band, and wrote the lyrics, for one album.

went looking for more Grass Widows. There are several black-and-white videos and they’re all brilliant (much stronger I think than this one). http://wwwhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLc0FU5JeU8 for starters…

thanks Chuck. I’ll update that one as well. Did you check out the French bands? Killer. And that poet

    Chuck Warner
liked the French bands quite a bit (tho could use more memorable hooks) and the poet is terrific. Grass Widow’s current label hasn’t updated their site since summer and the group page won’t load at all, but LP and 12″ are both available through Revolver/Midheaven. I’m late to the party obviously, but thanks to whoever nominated them.

  12. La Sera just played here in SF and it was amazing. I vote for them.
