You guys are just mean.
To be fair, they’ve influenced a bunch of shitty bands as well.
Hipsters!
you called?
I guess this means they influenced only really shit bands. What I always thought.
I’ll give you one proposed reason why Nirvana were the most influential band since the Beatles: The Beatles got the whole world listening and women wetting their knickers over them. Nirvana got the whole world listening, women wetting their knickers and women picking up guitars… I can’t think of another band who have done that… U-fucking-2 couldn’t do that and like it or not they are huge.
In Britain their influence was almost negligible. After Nevermind came Britpop, techno, post-rock, jungle, trip hop. Not an Eddie Vedder in sight.
Even if Nirvana did influence some of these bands…I find it unfair to hold them(or any band) responsible for what some kids get out from listening to their music. They do not even sound like Nirvana. Although, I do agree that it does sound like some of them are trying to.
Julian, actually Nirvana had more of an influence than you think. Take your mention of “britpop” (always hated that term), and Oasis. The Gallaghers said in their early days that their music was a reaction to the “depressing” (their words not mine) sound of “Grunge” and particular Nirvana. So Nirvana were an influence on them albeit not a postive one, but still an influence. Graham Coxton from Blur has stated his love of Nirvana and it has influenced his music. So thats two of the biggest “Britpop” bands influenced by Nirvana. Techno/Dance then, Have a listen to The Prodigy’s Music for the Jilted Generation and listen out for sample’s from Nirvana’s Very Ape. Nirvana was more of an influence on the bands from Britian mid to late ninties than you think.
i belive that nirvana was a big influence. bands like foo fighters and others would not be as good or even alive without nirvana
